The lecture entitled “Legal and Ethical Issues in Reproduction and Surrogacy” will be given to medical students studying reproductive endocrinology and assisted reproduction.  The lecture and presentation will assist the students to: 1. Understand third party reproductive options, including the use of medical technology in assisting patients to have children through gamete donation and gestational surrogacy 2. Identify who is the gestational carrier in surrogacy arrangements and the best practices for medical treatment of the surrogate, while considering the issue of informed consent and the gestational surrogate’s rights 3. Learn more about gestational surrogacy in the United States: How is it conducted? Who are the members of the professional surrogacy team? 4. Consider the practices in place to address ethical issues in gestational surrogacy It is important to explore this dialogue between medicine and the law, especially when it comes to surrogacy. Women who are becoming surrogate mothers, as well as intended parents having children through assisted reproduction and surrogacy, will benefit from this kind of interaction between the fields of law and medicine.  -
