Shouldn't Sherri Shepherd Take Responsibility?

Tonight I was speaking to my mother and she told me that Sherri Shepherd, former co-host of The View, had a baby by surrogacy and disclaimed the baby! The baby was born in August, 2014 as a result of in vitro fertilization using Sherri’s husband’s sperm and the egg of an egg donor.

Honestly, this is what gives surrogacy a bad name.  For the sake of the child that she made efforts and signed contracts to bring into the world, she should assume the responsibility for this baby. Presumably, she wanted a baby and agreed to have a baby using an egg donor. If she had carried the baby herself, she would not be able to renounce her responsibility.

Here’s more from a news report:

Jessica Bartholomew, the surrogate of former "The View" co-host Sherri Shepherd, has spoken out for the first time about how the 47-year-old comedian has decided not to be a part of Lamar Jr.'s life.

"I just don't understand how she can act like this baby is nonexistent. It just blows my mind," Jessica Bartholomew told Inside Edition Thursday night.

The 23-year-old waitress says that everything seemed normal until Shepherd split with her husband Lamar Sally in May. "She would call up and check on me during the pregnancy in the beginning. At the 20-week appointment, she seemed very excited. She was going to see the baby for the first time… I didn't see any warning signs right away."

To make matters worse, Sherri’s former husband has applied for MedCal, California’s state health insurance for the baby. Guess what? If California agrees to pay for health insurance, it will bring Jessica, the surrogate, into the case because she is the birth mother and now she will be liable for child support!

I think Jimmy Fallon should call up Sherri and tell her to get with the program. This is just plain shameful.
